Obituary of Hans-Jürgen Spalholz

Hans-Jürgen Spalholz, 73 of Bainbridge NY passed away peacefully on Monday, March 14, 2016 while napping at his winter home near the beach. Hans was known as Hans to his American friends, Jürgen to his German friends and Charlie to his childhood and artist friends.
He was predeceased by his father and mother, Bruno and Hilde Spalholz. Hans lives on through his children; Heidi Mae Spalholz, Hans Martell Spalholz and Samantha Amalia Spalholz; his brother, Wilfred Spalholz (and Barbara Spalholz); his many loving friends, including his dear Susan; his many nieces and nephews and extended family and neighbors; and his best friend, Shiva.
Hans was born on April 7, 1942, in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, during WWII. As an infant, he and his family evacuated their city for the safety of the countryside. He apprenticed as a tool and die maker and continued on to University. Hans immigrated to the US in 1968 and proudly became a US citizen in 2011. He was an accomplished and traveled Engineer. He first lived in New York City and started his family with Candes Bradbury in Bainbridge, NY in 1980.
His true passion and calling was being an Artist. He also loved the ocean, sailing, traveling the Mediterranean, playing his violin at church, soccer, and following B-G and local community sports. Hans was raised a Lutheran and was an active and devout member of the Union Valley Church in Bainbridge, NY. Through his art and devotion to God he found love and peace. He will be dearly missed. We love you Dad.

Calling hours will be from 1:00-3:00pm on Saturday, March 19th at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney. A memorial service will begin at 3:00pm with a reception to follow.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Monday, March 21st at Coventry Church with burial to follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.
