Afton—Jennie Elizabeth Corbett, 94, of Afton, passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at her home. Jennie was born on March 3, 1922 in Watertown, NY, daughter of the late Floyd and Dorothy (Sillsby) Colon. She spent the early half of her life in the Watertown area, and worked as a waitress for many years at the F.D. Woolworth Company. She moved to the Tri-Town area in the 1980s and worked as a cook and aide at the nursing home in Unadilla, NY.
While in Watertown, Jennie was a long time active member of the Bethany Methodist Church where she sang in the choir. She later joined the First Baptist Church in Bainbridge which she attended until her health prevented it. Jennie enjoyed sewing and was a great baker of apple pies.
She was predeceased by three husbands: Wilson L. Berry, Sr., William M. McCracken and George A. Corbett, as well as her oldest son, Wilson L. Berry, Jr. in 1988.
Jennie is survived by: her son and daughter-in-law, Ronald E. and Janet Berry of Bainbridge; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia A. and David Sherman of Waltham, MA; step-son, Frederick Corbett and his family of Delaware; 3 grandchildren: Gary M. and Elizabeth Sherman, Scott A. and Michelle Sherman and Danielle A. and Charles LaBarre; 5 great-grandchildren: Hailey Sherman (14), Ryan Sherman (11), Alicia LaBarre (17), Sebastian LaBarre (5) and Gavin LaBarre (2); sister, Rosena Roberts; as well as her special friend and caregiver, Roger Neubauer of Afton.
Friends may call from 6:00-8:00pm on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney, NY 13838. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, June 3rd at the funeral chapel. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the First Baptist Church of Bainbridge, 12 S. Main St. Bainbridge, NY 13733.
