Sherrie Ann Clapperton
Sidney Center—Sherrie Ann Clapperton of Sidney Center passed away peacefully on February 15, 2017 at the Chestnut Park Rehabilitation Facility in Oneonta.
She was born on April 16, 1936 in Shavertown, NY, the daughter of the late Bassett and Mary (VanKuren) Terry. Sherrie spent her childhood in Shavertown and moved with her family to Sidney Center, where she graduated from Sidney Central School.
On April 20, 1957, she married Melvin (Bill) Clapperton, and they made their home in Sidney Center raising their two sons.
Sherrie worked at the Sidney Center Elementary School and was a lifetime member of the Sidney Center Fire Department Auxillary. She loved her family and was the happiest when she was able to sit and rock her grandchildren. She enjoyed working on crossword puzzles and word search puzzles. She also loved spending time at their camp in Oneonta.
Sherrie is survived by her husband of 59 years, Melvin (Bill) Clapperton; her two sons: Stephen Clapperton and Thomas (Sandy) Clapperton; her grandchildren: Sarah (Shane Neer) Bennett, Brandon (Morgan Winans) Clapperton, Jordan Clapperton, Lindsay (Justin) Hodge, Skylar (Tyler Pritchard) Clapperton; and her great-granddaughter, Riley Neer.
Sherrie is also survived by her siblings, Sally (Tom) Frawley and Roger (Sharon) Terry; her sister-in-law, Joan Clapperton; aunt, Beulah Lodovice and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sisters and brothers-in-law Lois and Phillip Baumes, Elaine Clapperton, and David Clapperton.
Friends may call on Sunday, June 25, 2017 from 1:00-2:00pm at the Sidney Center Fire Department. A memorial service will follow at 2:00pm at the fire department with Pastor Dennis Murray officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sidney Center Fire Department Auxillary.
