Obituary of Judy G. Erbe

Judy Erbe Afton, NY Judy Beth Green Erbe, 59, of Afton, New York, passed away February 22, 2010 surrounded by her family. She was born August 21, 1950 in Oneida, NY, the daughter of Dorothy and Gerald Green. She was the oldest of 3 daughters. Judy graduated from Unatego High School in 1968. She received her Bachelor of Science in elementary education from SUNY Oneonta in 1994 with Institutional Honors Cum laude and her Masters of Science in education from SUNY Binghamton in 2002. She was a part of the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society. She worked in the Sidney Central School District for 16 and years. While working for the school she was a substitute teacher's aid, special education teacher, and reading lab instructor. After earning her degree in education she then taught 1st, 4th, 5th and 6th grade reading from Nov. 1998 until she retired in Nov. 2009. Judy was also involved at the school with many other services including Academic Intervention Services, the after school program, and the homeless grant program. She was an advisor for the drama club and the service club. Judy served as the treasurer of the Binghamton Area Reading Council and also taught English Language Arts at Camp Brace Residential Center during the summer. Teaching and helping children was one of her true passions. She deeply loved her students, friends and family. Judy is survived by her four children Jeremy McKown of Hoboken, NJ, Jennie McKown, of Baltimore, MD, Michelle Erbe of Binghamton, NY and Ryan Erbe of West Nyack, NY. She is also survived by her siblings and their spouses; Debbie and Scott Somers of Puyallop, WA and Patti and Rod Kafchinski of Unadilla, NY and her parents; Dorothy and Gerald Green of Unadilla, NY. Friends and family are invited to the calling hours from 2-4pm and 7-9pm on Friday February 26th at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main Street, Sidney, NY 13838. A memorial service will be held on Saturday February 27th beginning at 11am at the First Presbyterian Church 156 Main Street Unadilla, NY 13849 with Reverend Patty Wolff. Burial will take place in the spring at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Unadilla, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to 'Dollars for Scholars'.
