Daisy Sites VanValkenburgh, 96, of 15 Sherman Ave passed away on Monday November 3rd at AO Fox Memorial Hospital after suffering a series of strokes. Daisy, daughter of late William O. and Anna (English) Sites was born in Conklin, NY on May 13, 1924 and grew up on a family farm in Masonville. After graduating from Bainbridge High School, class of 1942, Daisy was joined in marriage to her husband of 60 years, Connelly B. VanValkenburgh, on June 24, 1942. When Connelly shipped out for jump school training in California, Daisy, with all of 12 dollars traveled across the country to support her soldier. After WWII, she returned to Sidney and for a time worked at The Hospital. She was later a longtime employee of Scintilla, later Bendix, until her retirement in the mid 1980's. She was laid to rest with Connelly in the Masonville Cemetery. Daisy is survived by her sister, Anna Murrell of Bon Aqua, TN, granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Victoria and Robert Sanzone of New York and grandson, Arthur E. Vogt of Buffalo Creek, Colorado, and by her great granddaughters; Audrey, Brittany and Madeline Hutchinson of Lawton Oklahoma. Donations can be made in her name to the Sidney Memorial Public Library.
