Obituary of John L. Short

John Short, 87, of Bainbridge passed away July30, 2021 at Cooperstown Center in Cooperstown following a brief illness. John was born Aug.1, 1933 to James and Alta (Palmer) Short in Sidney. After graduating high school in Otego, John served in the U.S. Navy from1951-1954. John married the love of his life, Elaine Sowles, on July 27, 1958 and they built their lifelong home in Bainbridge. In Dec. of 1989, he retired from Bendix after 34 years of service. John lovingly cared for his wife up until her death in 2006. John is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, David and Melinda Short of Unadilla; a granddaughter Paula (Amos) VonBerg and his precious great-granddaughter Eden VonBerg of Bainbridge; a grandson, Kevin Short of Unadilla; two brothers-Andrew Short(Reta Delorme) of Florida and Canada; James and Karen Short of Oneonta ; a sister -in-law Ellen Smith and husband Robert Nesbett of New Berlin; and several nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Mary Short. There are no calling hours. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
