Helen Marie Hayward went to be with the Lord on May 22, 2022. She passed away peacefully at her home in Otego, New York with her family by her side. She was born September 23, 1944 in Delhi, NY, the daughter of John and Charlotte Comfort. Helen is survived by her husband of thirty years, Harold W. Hayward and daughters, Mona Begeal, Mary Jane Walters, and Leslie Salmon. She is also survived by a brother, John Comfort, Jr. and a special lifelong friend, Tina Smith. Helen is also survived by stepsons, Thomas Hayward, Daniel Hayward, Richard Hayward and James Hayward, and by thirteen grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Mary Behrer. Helen had many places of employment, but the most memorable was being the cook at the Delaware County, NY jail. She also did volunteer work at the Hospice Thrift Shop in Oneonta, NY. She enjoyed many hobbies including sewing, crocheting, and gardening. Helen made several beautiful quilts and many lap quilts that she donated to nursing homes in the area to be distributed to the needy. Helen is a member of Northfield Community Church and enjoyed leading the service at both Plymouth Community Church and Northfield when the pastors couldn't be there. A memorial service will be held at a time and place yet to be determined. Memorial contributions may be made to Helios Care, 297 River St. Oneonta, NY 13820.
