A longtime resident of Sidney and Bainbridge, NY, Dorothea Ward, 79, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2022 in the gracious and compassionate care of staff at Chestnut Park in Oneonta, NY. Dorothea was the daughter of Aaron D. Gill and Anna M. Gill of Sidney.
Dorothea is survived by her four devoted children: Edward Dotey Jr. and wife Linda of Sidney Center; Anna Dotey of Sidney; Penny Decker of Franklin; and David Dotey and wife Loretta of Delancey.
Dorothea is also survived by her loving grandchildren: Misty Fields of Sidney Center, Rachel Dotey of Albany, Ashley (Dakota) Vanvalkenburgh of Unadilla, Sarah Dotey of Sidney Center, Kimberly Decker of Bainbridge, Courtney Condon of Walton, David Dotey Jr. of Delancey, Aaron Fields, Andrew Houck, April Houck and Bryan Withers, along with several other nieces and nephews.
Dorothea was predeceased by her parents, Aaron and Anna Gill; all her siblings: Aaron Gill Jr., Leana R., Anna M., Edna J., and Elmer C.; her beloved daughter, Sally M. Houck; and her husbands, Edward Dotey Sr., Clayton Tyler and Loren Ward.
Dorothea had many wonderful friends from the Sidney and Bainbridge areas, many whom nicknamed her "Red". She worked at American Plastics before going to ACCO (formerly Keith Clark/Mead) of Sidney, where she retired after over 28 years. If you knew Dorothea (Dot), you knew she loved her family, playing Bingo, crossword puzzles, lawn-saleing, but boy did she love to cook. She enjoyed family dinners and always made enough for leftovers! One of her most favorite pastimes was going for car rides with her son Ed, and lawn-saleing with Anna Mae.
Our mother (grandmother) will forever be missed and in our hearts; we will cherish all she brought to this world and the love she gave. She was a woman that did not believe in the word "quit".
Graveside services will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney. Share condolences and memories online at www.landersfh.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Dorothea's name to the Sidney Center Ladies Auxiliary, PO Box 190, Sidney Center, NY 13839.
