Obituary of Susan L. Kokalas

Susan Kokalas, age 105, of Sidney NY, was peacefully reunited with her beloved husband on New Year's Day, 2023. She was born on August 22, 1917 in Binghamton NY, the younger of two daughters, to Susan and John Zdanevich, who have all predeceased her. Susan married the love of her life, Edward Kokalas of Johnson City NY, on August 21, 1941. Together, with their 3 children, they created a beautiful life in Sidney for 72 years until Edward's passing. Although broken hearted over the loss of her husband, Susan survived for 10 more years, with the help of her children, until death finally brought them back together for eternity. Susan and Ed were inseparable, helping and supporting each other throughout life. Susan worked tirelessly as a homemaker, rarely taking time to rest but instead always doing for others. Family was most important to her, and she was extremely proud of her grandchildren. Raising her children and caring for her home, her parents and husband were her main priorities. She was selfless in her own wants and needs, always putting others ahead of herself. Susan will always be remembered for her constant search for knowledge and her many talents which she performed with excellence such as cooking, gardening, oil painting, sewing and crafts. She loved to entertain, to travel and to play pinochle with family and her neighborhood card club. She had also been a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Sidney for over 60 years. Surviving family members are Susan's three children: daughter Susan Terry, son Edward Kokalas (Kathi) and daughter Ellen Whipple (Ron). She has 7 grandchildren: Kathy Terry, Amanda Carlin, Michael Terry (Kaho), Ken Simpson (Karen), Steven Whipple (Dena), Tim Whipple (Melissa), Eric Whipple (Shauna) and 1 young granddaughter who predeceased her, Jennifer Ann Terry. She also has 17 great grandchildren. Friends may call on Friday, January 6 from 9:30-10:30am at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney NY.
