SIDNEY-- Alfred W. Compton passed away on April 25, 2023 at the New York State Veterans Home in Oxford, 1 day shy of his 98th birthday. He was born on April 26, 1925 in Sidney to the late Richard and Gertrude (Church) Compton. In 1942, Alfred enlisted in the US Navy, serving during World War II until his honorable discharge in 1946. He retired as a machinist from Bendix in Sidney.
He was predeceased by his wife, Virginia (Wagner) Compton in June 2022. He is survived by his son, William (Blanche) Compton; daughter, Kristine (George) Foster and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Sand Hill Cemetery, Wells Bridge. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital at www.stjude.org.
