Ann F. Smith, 77, of Bainbridge, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2023 at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton.
She was born on October 30, 1945 in Sidney, NY, daughter of the late Harry and Janette (Fassett) DeBloom.
On December 10, 1966, Ann was married to Richard E. Smith in Sidney, sharing nearly 29 years of marriage before he predeceased her on October 12, 1995.
Generous and selfless, Ann was exceptionally proud of her life of service as a registered nurse. She attended Albany Med and later St. Joseph's College in Maine for her bachelor's degree. She started her career at Homer Folks in Oneonta and went on to work in numerous departments and capacities at The Hospital, Sidney, Camp Brace in Masonville and NYSOPWDD. She was a member of the NYS Nurses Association and led a diabetic support group.
Ann enjoyed knitting and crocheting. During her time in obstetrics, she was known for making all the newborn hats at The Hospital. She loved to travel on cruises and bus trips and enjoyed bowling. She was a girl scout leader, a member of the Bainbridge Fire Dept. Auxiliary and the Sidney Elks Auxiliary.
A longtime member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Bainbridge, Ann's faith was important to her. She was a member of the St. Peter's Vestry, as well as a Sunday School teacher.
Ann's family was of utmost importance to her, and she cherished time spent and memories made with them. She will be missed by her three children: Barbara Mayes (Tim), Nancy Charles (Wayne) and Douglas Smith (Marie); grandchildren: Samantha Wygant (Casey), TJ Mayes, Jenaya Falciani (Zach), Justin Charles, Reno Smith (May) and Rachael Smith (Brandon); great-grandchildren: Kendall, Brantley and Benson Wygant, Blaine and Hudson Falciani, and Douglas Smith; two sisters: Jean Giessman (Fred) and Linda Stock (Richard) as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Ann was predeceased by her beloved companion of 16 years, her Pomeranian, Harry.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 to 4:00pm on Sunday, September 17th at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 1 Church St. Bainbridge, NY 13733. Burial will be private in St. Peter's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her memory may be directed to the Ronald McDonald House.
