Obituary of Roy D. Straka
Please share a memory of Roy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that the family of Roy Straka announces his peaceful passing on Friday, September 22, 2023 at the age of 80 after a long struggle with Parkinson's disease.
Roy was born April 24, 1943 the son of the late Andrew Straka and Elloween Aylesworth and spent his early years in Sherburne, NY where he met the love of his life, Sally Price. He and Sally married on April 6, 1963 and soon thereafter settled in Sidney, NY where they began their family and Roy dedicated over 40 years of service to Amphenol Corporation.
Roy is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sally, son Todd and daughter in-law Tanya, daughter Kristie and son-in-law Dan as well as their 4 grandchildren Courtney, Tyler, Jeffrey, and Lindsay; two step-grandchildren Brittnie and Allison, and one great-grandson Jettson. He is also survived by his brother Roger Straka (& Nancy) and half-brothers Andy Straka (& Bonnie) and John Straka (& Marlene) as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In his early years, Roy was an avid softball player as well as snowmobiler, and also loved to spend time in the outdoors hunting and fishing. He loved to play golf and also enjoyed performing carpentry and landscaping projects at home.
Roy's greatest joy came from being a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, always putting his family and grandchildren first. He also firmly believed in giving back to his community, where he actively served in various capacities with the East Guilford Presbyterian Church, Sidney Rotary Club, Sidney Country Club, and the Sidney Masonic Temple. In his last act of selflessness, Roy donated his body to science in hopes of helping to assist in advancing medical breakthroughs relating to Parkinson's disease.
The family will be receiving family and friends on Thursday, September 28th from 4 – 6 PM
at C. H. Landers Funeral Chapel 21 Main St. in
Sidney, with a private celebration of life to follow at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donation be made to the Sidney Fire Department 74 River St. Sidney, NY 13838 or St. Jude's Childrens Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105
