Obituary of Bruce L. Shackelton

Bruce L. Shackelton, 85, passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, January 14, 2024 at Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City, NY. He was born on Sept 1, 1938 in Trout Creek, NY, son of Hilton and Dorothy (Cummings) Shackelton. In 1956, he joined the US Navy, serving his country for several years in both the Navy and Naval Reserves. On February 4, 1962 he married the love of his life, Lucinda (Cindy) Hulbert.
Bruce worked as a molder for Amphenol, retiring from there after working hard for many years. He was also active in the fire department. As a drummer and avid music lover he and Cindy played in a band for years at many different venues. He was an active member of the Congregational UCC Church in Sidney, serving as a trustee and member of the choir.
His family was always the most important part of his life and he enjoyed spending as much time as possible with them. Many summers involved camping at Kellystone Park. Bruce will be most remembered for his quick smile, infectious laugh, and great sense of humor.
He is survived by his 3 children: Timothy (Kathi) Shackelton, Catherine Shackelton (John), Christina (Rich) Goodliff; brother, Ralph Shackelton; sister, Louise Harrison; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins, along with many special friends.
He was predeceased by his wife Cindy after 58 years of marriage.
Friends are invited to call on Saturday, January 20 from 11:00am to 1:00pm at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney, NY 13838. Funeral services will follow at 1:00pm at the funeral chapel.
