Obituary of Catherine T. O'Brien

Catherine Therese O'Brien, 72, of Sidney Center, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 7, 2024 in Ilion, NY. Cathy was born in Glen Cove, NY to the late William and Dora Morrison. She graduated from Glen Cove High School and began working at King Kullen when she met her late husband, Thomas M. O'Brien. They were married in 1973. Cathy was a stay-at-home mom to her daughter, Tracy, for many years before she reentered the workforce, working as a cashier for various businesses in Sidney, eventually retiring from Kmart. She missed her many coworkers and customers who became friends. Cathy enjoyed crafting and watching funny movies, going on family vacations and drinking coffee on the deck in the sunshine with "her" dog Pooch. Cathy is survived by her daughter, Tracy Ross and husband Robert, sister, Constance Mohlenhoff and husband Mark, grandchildren: Robert M. Ross, Jr. and Krista Matzel and Matthew J. Ross; great-grandchildren, Bobby and Arielle; nieces and nephews: Terry, Dawn, Claire, Mary, Med, Frank, Kevin, Billy, Jerad, Johnny, Devra, Jamie, Nikki and Josh, along with so many special, dear friends and extended family. The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Wynn Hospital of Utica and the Grand Nursing & Rehab of Ilion for the love and comforting care they gave to Mom. Friends may call from 4:00-6:00pm on Friday, April 12, 2024 at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney, NY 13838. Funeral services will follow at 6:00pm at the funeral chapel. Graveside services will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, April 13th in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.
