Obituary of Darren G. Mongardi

Darren Gregory Mongardi, formerly of Sidney and Johnson City, NY, unexpectedly passed away on May 14, 2024, in Glens Falls, NY. He was born on March 6, 1966, at The Hospital in Sidney, NY to Allan and Lynn Mongardi. He graduated from Sidney High School in 1984 where he was a member of the Olympics of the Mind team, which won local, state and national championships. He led a product class which later gave rise to the Sidney Youth Employment Bureau which turned a profit under his leadership. He was involved with the rifle team and Future Farmers of America (FFA). Darren was also an avid Boy Scout; he attained the ranks of Life Scout and Order of the Arrow. After high school, Darren completed diesel mechanics training in Pennsylvania and later attended SUNY Oswego, where he was active in Tau Kappa Epsilon, a national fraternity. He later became an electrician. He retired from the Campus Facilities Department at Binghamton University due to medical issues, having worked in the field for over 20 years. He enjoyed collecting and selling electronic equipment, and he loved attending auctions and amateur radio sales events "Ham fests". Darren was a good friend to those who needed help; his friends and family were very important to him. He is survived by his mother, Lynn Mongardi, of Myrtle Beach, SC and his sister, Nora Mongardi, of Huntington, NY. He was predeceased by his father, Allan Mongardi of Sidney, who passed in April 2023. He is also survived by aunts, uncles and many cousins. Visitation will be held at the C.H, Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main Street, Sidney, NY on Thursday, May 30th 5:30 – 7:30 PM. A funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 15 Liberty St., Sidney at 3 PM on Friday, May 31st.
