Due to traveling without internet service, I was unable to join the online memorial services.
This is what I have to say about Alicia, she was my guidance angel on the American soul. She risked her citizenship to defend me as an illegal immigrant. She traveled to Gambia, visited my high school to retrieve my academic record / transcript to get me a scholarship at Long Island University C W post.
She met my in-laws in Mali first and became a mediator in between , since I never met them before.
Alicia wrote me all my job recommendations letters which earned me rewarding benefits. Those lengthy and detailed letters included a letter of character verification which finally resulted in adjusting my immigration status and, made me a citizen today.
I forgot to say, I met Alicia when I was in my mid 20s , through a friend’s sister Haja Jawara, in New York In 1988. I spent many weeks with her at Brooklyn, . To get extra funds to save for my education, she arranged for me to clean few Apts. in her building in Brooklyn. Most of the times, she will assist in cleaning with me to avoid me being late for my other job. To show appreciation, I named one of my twin girls after Alicia.
. To Daniel , Janice and your children, you should be proud to have Alicia as a parent and grand parent. Alicia was a great human being. She was compassionate, kind, giving, thoughtful and fair. I am missing her daily.
I pray for her beautiful soul continue to Rest peacefully.
