Obituary of Anna Marie Prato

Please share a memory of Anna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
In the early morning hours of December 10, 2024, Anna Marie Prato passed away peacefully just days after celebrating her 92nd birthday. Anna was born December 4, 1932 in Woodside Queens, New York City, to Joseph and Jane (McLaughlin) Seus. At age 11, the family moved to Portion Road in Lake Ronkonkoma, NY where her father opened a pet shop and raised racing pigeons. It is likely where Anna developed her love of animals. Throughout her life she consistently had a menagerie of animals from ducks, chickens and horses; to raising toy poodles and even the occasional chipmunk named Rusty. Anna quit school in 8th grade to help support the family working at a tool and dye factory but later became a Nurse’s Aide, following in her older sister’s footsteps whom she idolized. She worked as an Aide for several years at Central Islip State Hospital on Long Island. She was so proud of being a Nurse’s Aide and shared stories of her working years with everyone she met. On September 20th, 1952 she married Lawrence Doyle and together they had seven children. She later moved to Holbrook NY where she partnered running a horse farm, called the Double Bar M Ranch. In 1971 she moved to Guilford in upstate NY and remarried the summer of 1972 to Nicolo Prato and added another daughter to the family. Until her retirement she worked as a Nurse’s Aide at The Hospital in Sidney NY where she met many of her dearest friends. Aside from her animals, she also enjoyed bowling with her league, having her garden, buying new plants in the spring, crocheting, playing cards, and could never resist a yard sale. She loved having company over for coffee or going on adventures with friends. She especially enjoyed family time, playing baseball, roller skating, or just a fun game of cards or a board game, she never hesitated to join in. She loved a good game of Rummy and King’s Corners and introduced the game to everyone around her. Her daily love consisted of watching her westerns on TV which reminded her of her beloved horse, Cheyenne. She loved the holidays and celebrating milestones with family. She loved making people laugh and everyone who met her were instantly part of her family. Anna was predeceased by her parents, her late husbands, Larry Doyle and Nick Prato, her older sister Margaret (Margie), her five brothers; Johnny, Charlie, Joey, Georgie, and Bobby Seus and her daughters Jean Marie Doyle and Anne Margaret Scheidegger, and several of her nephews. She is survived by two sons, Joseph (Theresa) Doyle of Guilford and James Doyle of Greene, her twin daughters Patricia Owens of Lake Grove, NY, Deborah (Robert) Steele of Las Vegas, NV., Mary Stone of Guilford NY, and Nicole (Jamie) Hoy of Camillus, NY, her 16 grandchildren: Clayton, Debi, Mary, Stephen, Sondra Jean, Joey, Joshua, Tasha, Amanda, Ricky, Adam, Michelle, Sebastian, Kaitlyn, Tyler and Gabriella, numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, her sister-in-law, Marie Seus, her cousin, Maggie, and many nieces and nephews who always got a kick out of Aunt Anna. She also leaves behind dear friends whose company she cherished. Friends are invited to call from 5:00 – 6:00pm on Friday, December 20, 2024 at C.H.
