James S. Philpott, Jr. 75 of Sidney passed away suddenly Thursday, April 28, 2011 at his home.
He was born February 28, 1936, son of the late James S. and Najali (Dority) Philpott in Utica. Jim graduated from Sidney Central School in the Class of 1954 and served his country in the Marine Corp Reserves. Jim married Kris (Mathewson); they were together for 17 years. In 1982 Jim re-married Brenda Mercurio in Unadilla.
He was employed by Bendix in Sidney for 32 years. Jim was the manager of process engineering when he retired. He served his community in the Sidney Fire Department Fire Police for many years and was a longtime member of the Sidney American Legion. Jim was a dedicated member of the Sidney Elks Lodge; he often volunteered to cook the prime rib. Jim spent his free time playing golf, cooking and socializing with his many friends.

9 Grandchildren - Melissa Stanton, Cecilia Thompson, David Thompson, Nicole and Katlyn Philpott, Chelsi and Daniel Woodruff, BriHana and Zaharah Abdu-Shahid.

Sister-in-law - Francine Feltman, Sidney
Several nieces, nephews and many others he loved as if they were his kids.
He was also predeceased by his Brother, Brian Philpott.
Friends may call from 5-7 PM on Sunday, May 1, 2011 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel 21 Main St. Sidney.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 2, 2011 at 11:00 AM at C. H. Landers Funeral Chapel; Fr. James Shevlin of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Sidney will officiate.
