Obituary of Robert N. Johnson

Robert N. Johnson Unadilla, NY Robert N. Johnson, 97, a longtime resident of Unadilla, passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich. Robert was born on August 25, 1913, son of the late David E. and Alma (Anderson) Johnson in Cedar Grove, NJ. Robert was married to Gertrude F. Walters in Paterson, NJ. She predeceased him on December 18, 1984. He later married Irene Palmer (Matteson) on July 28, 1990 in Unadilla. Robert owned his own farm for several years and before relocating to New York, also had a milk business in New Jersey. Robert was very active in his community. He was a longtime member and Past Elder at the First Presbyterian Church in Unadilla. He was also a member and past master for both the Sidney Freedom Lodge #801 and the former Unadilla Grange, as well as a member and Past Patron of the Freedom Lodge Chapter #179 O.E.S. in Unadilla. For 10 years, Bob was also a County Representative. Bob is survived by: His wife, Irene Palmer Johnson of Norwich Son, Robert Johnson and his wife, Carol of Beaufort, NC Daughter, Gail Clarke and her husband, Robert of Sussex, NJ Step-son, Lynn Palmer and his wife, Lorrie of Unadilla Step-daughter, Linda Schmidt and her husband, Norman of Sherburne 6 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren In addition to his first wife, Gertrude, Robert was predeceased by three brothers: David, Norman and Edwin Johnson, and two sisters: Grace Wettyen and Helen Grabo. Friends are invited to call on Friday, May 6, 2011 from 12noon until 1:00pm at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21Main Street Sidney, NY 13838. A Masonic Memorial Service will take place following visitation. Funeral services will begin at 1:00pm at the funeral chapel with Rev. Patty Wolff, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Unadilla, officiating. Burial will be private in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla.
