George A. Munk, 90, of Bainbridge, passed away on Monday, September 5, 2011. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; three children: Linda and Robert Krolick of Sacramento, CA, Ruth and Michael Gorman of Six Mile, SC and John and Mary Munk of Bainbridge; four grandchildren: David and Jennifer Krolick and Rachel and Matthew Gorman; and one great grandson, Robert Krolick. He was predeceased by his brother, Ove Munk and his sister, Ethel Rosenkranz.
George graduated from Bainbridge Central High School in 1939. He had been employed by the American Separator Co., Bainbridge; Bendix Scintilla, Sidney and he retired from the US Postal Service after 30 years as a Rural Letter Carrier. He served his country during World War II on a sub tender and several submarines in the American Theater. He enjoyed traveling and flew several times to visit relatives in Denmark. He vacationed over the years in Nova Scotia, Price Edward Island, Alaska, Bermuda, San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Myrtle Beach, SC.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 23, 2011 at 3:00pm at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney, NY 13838. Friends may call from 2:00pm until the time of service. Burial with military honors will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in George's name may be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org or to the National Parkinson Foundation at www.parkinson.org.
