Obituary of Joseph Francis Cardinal

Joseph F. Cardinal Sidney Center, NY Joseph Francis Cardinal, 83, of Sidney Center, passed away Monday, January 2, 2012 at his home. He was born January 11, 1928, son of the late Samuel and Katherine (Rubinate) Cardinal in Brooklyn. Joe served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1946 to 1947. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal. Joe married Doris (Amodio) on August 7, 1982 in Binghamton. They moved to Sidney Center and together they raised and sold Spanish Barb horses for many years. Joe also worked as the assessor for the towns of Afton, Bainbridge and Sidney for over 15 years. Joe was a member of the Sidney Moose Lodge and the Sidney American Legion. He was the past vice chairman of the Sidney Republican Committee and was voted Republican of the Years in 2009. He is survived by his loving wife - Doris Cardinal, Sidney Center. Son - Joseph S. Cardinal, Vancouver, WA Daughter and son-in-law- Diana and Mark Harrison, East Rockaway, NY Step- Daughter and son-in-law - Diane and Robert Blankenhorn, Hicksville, NY Step son and daughter-in-law - Albert and Barbara Hoverson, Belford, NJ Grandchildren - Adam and Evan Harrison, Angela and Joseph M. Cardinal, Veronica Cardinal, Robert and Katie Blankenhorn, Patti, Steven, Nicki and Michael Hoverson. Great grandson - Dominick Cottrell Friends may call Thursday, January 5, 2012 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel 21 Main St. Sidney. A fraternal service will be conducted by the Sidney Moose Lodge at 8:00PM in the funeral chapel. Funeral services with military honors will be held Friday January 6, in the funeral chapel at 11:00 AM. Fr. Gordon Polenz, Pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sidney will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Joe's name to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 1 Birchwood Drive Oneonta, NY 13820.
