Marion G. Chickering
Sidney, NY
Marion G. Chickering, 91, of Sidney, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 8, 2012 at her daughter's home in Sidney. Marion was born on January 31, 1921, daughter of the late A. Miles and Ruth (Wood) Graves in Oneonta. On December 7, 1945, she was married to George W. Chickering in Hallstead, PA. In 1946, Marion and George moved to Sidney. She worked at Scintilla as an Attendance Clerk until they started their family.
Marion and George were longtime dedicated members of the First Congregational Church in Sidney where Marion taught Sunday School. George predeceased her on October 7, 1992. Following his passing, Marion joined the United Methodist Church of Sidney where she volunteered as an usher and greeter, worked on the newsletter and helped with luncheons and events. She also volunteered at The Hospital in Sidney for several years at the reception desk, the gift shop and the coffee shop, and earned recognition for dedicating over 2000 volunteer hours there.
Marion was very supportive of the Sidney community and could often be found watching all the local parades. She enjoyed bus trips and special lunches with her girlfriends and she loved to play cards.
