Arlene Arrandale
Sidney, NY
Arlene Arrandale (nee Smith) passed away Sunday, May 26, 2013 at the age 90. Born on November 16, 1922 in Unadilla, she was the eldest daughter of E. Sidney and Gertrude Smith. Arlene married Richard Arrandale, also of Sidney, on September 23, 1945, following his service in the US Marine Corps and her time working at the Bendix Corp. in Sidney as part of the war effort.
She is survived by their two sons Ralph Arrandale and his wife Elizabeth, Steven Arrandale and a daughter, Kristine Williams and her husband Roger, as well as, three grandchildren, Christopher Williams, Mayrita and Emily Arrandale. She was also predeceased by her brother, Hugh Smith and Sister, Jean Mazzarella.
Arlene was a devoted homemaker, raising her family and giving generously of her time to the schools and community in numerous capacities and through volunteer efforts. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also a professional practitioner of domestic arts: sewing, knitting and crocheting at home, and providing people in Sidney with a much-needed service in tailoring and alterations to garments. Arlene was also an avid enjoyer of flea markets and antiquing.
She made a lifetime of friends and acquaintances in Sidney, and neighboring towns in upstate New York, where she lived as a child. Arlene especially cherished her friendship with the late Bertha and Francis "Red" Redmond and their family.
The Arrandale family wishes to thank Ronita Holbert, her neighbor and everyone who have shared their prayers and memories of Arlene at this heartfelt time.
