Former Sidney resident, Ruth Alice Wyss, passed away February 16, 2014 at Suncoast Hospice Care Center in St. Petersburg, Florida at the age of 88. Ruth was born May 20, 1925 in Otego, NY, the youngest daughter of George and Ethel Goble. Preceded in death by her daughter, Jackie Marie Farnach (1992), her sister, Kathleen Baker (2008) and her husband of 64 years, Louis G. Wyss (2009), she is survived by: son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Barbara Wyss of Houston, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Kathy Wyss of Tierra Verde, FL; grandsons, Evan Wyss of Brooklyn, NY and Kyle Wyss of St. Petersburg, FL; sister-in-law, Emily Putano of Binghamton; nieces, Vicki Noonan and Nancy Stillittano; nephew, Bernie Putano; and son-in-law and grandson, John and Robert Farnach.
Ruth graduated as Valedictorian of her class in 1942 from Mt. Upton Central School. She went on to graduate from Central City Business Institute (CCBI) in Syracuse before going to work at Scintilla in Sidney. It was there that she met the love of her life, Louis Wyss. On January 28, 1945, Ruth Goble and Lou Wyss were married in San Diego, CA, where Lou was stationed with the U.S. Navy.
Ruth worked as a secretary at Scintilla before leaving to raise her children. She returned to work at Bendix in 1964 and remained there until 1971, when she and Lou retired from Bendix and moved to Indian Rocks Beach on the west coast of Florida. Ruth and Lou purchased and operated two motels on the Gulf of Mexico and Ruth later went to work for Raytheon/ECI in St. Petersburg, FL. Ruth and Lou remained in the St. Petersburg area for the remainder of their lives where they were especially involved in the lives of their grandsons, Evan and Kyle.
Ruth was a devoted and beloved wife, mother and grandmother, who touched everyone that she met with her warmth and generosity.
On Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 10:00am, a graveside memorial service will be held at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Sidney.
