Obituary of Margery Secrest

Margery Secrest Afton, NY Margery Secrest, 86, of Afton, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Wilson Regional Medical Center in Johnson City. Marge was born on August 22, 1927, daughter of the late H.C. McCullough and Dorothy (Gates) McCullough. She graduated from Binghamton North High School. On June 21, 1953, she was married to Francis Charles Secrest in Hillcrest. He predeceased her on January 6, 2002. Marge was a longtime teacher with Afton Central Schools, and dedicated many years to serving on the Afton Board of Education, holding the office of President since 1995. She was also the President of the BOCES Board of Education, which she had served on since 2001. Marge was also involved with the Chenango County Farm Bureau serving as Vice President since 2003 as well as the Indian Hills Girl Scout Council. Marge’s faith was incredibly important to her. She was a dedicated and active member of the First Baptist Church of Bainbridge, participating in the choir and serving on numerous committees. Marge is survived by: niece, Linda (Walden) Rohs, Manhattan, KS; nephew, Paul Walden, Dallas, TX; and numerous extended family and friends. Marge was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Francis, her sister, Sue (McCullough) Walden and a nephew, William (Freddy) Walden. Friends are invited to call from 4:00-7:00pm on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel 21 Main St. Sidney, NY 13838. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, May 15th at the First Baptist Church of Bainbridge, 12 S. Main Street Bainbridge, NY 13733. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Deposit.
