Russell C. LeBar
Bainbridge—Russell Charles LeBar, 84, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at his home with his family at his side after an extended illness. Russell was born on March 12, 1930, son of the late John and Annette (Gelinas) LeBar in East Stroudsburg, PA.
Russell served in the US Army for three years during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in December 1953. Following his military service, Russ was married to his loving wife, Joan Kwiecien-Szymanska.
He received Masters Degrees in Mathematics and Education from Temple University and the University of Detroit Mercy. He dedicated his life to teaching with moral integrity. His extensive teaching career began at Warwick Central School, followed by North Salem High School. Then he taught at Franklin Central School for 17 years before becoming a collegiate math instructor at Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff, MO for ten years. At Three Rivers, Russ was also the Division Chairman of Mathematics, the Natural Sciences and the Physical Sciences for four years before his retirement.
Besides teaching, Russ was passionate about the outdoors: he loved wildlife, gardening, conservation and fishing.
Russ is survived by: his wife of 50 years, Joan LeBar of Bainbridge; daughter, Maria LeBar of Bainbridge, son, Russell LeBar of O'Fallon, Missouri; sister, Dorothy; two brothers, Joseph and James; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Russell was predeceased by four brothers: Ralph, Harold, William and Andrew, and sister, Alice.
Friends are invited to call from 1:00-3:00pm on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 3:00pm at Sacred Heart Church, 15 Liberty St. Sidney with Fr. Gordon Polenz officiating.
