Curran, Margaret Mary
Margaret Mary Curran, a resident of Mt. Upton, NY and formerly of Yonkers, the Bronx, and Halcottsville, passed away surrounded with love by her daughters and sons-in-law on September 17, 2014 at the age of 68. She was born in London, England on July 19, 1946 to the late John and Ita Cleary of County Limerick, Ireland. She emigrated to America in 1952 and was raised by her mother on South Broadway in Yonkers where she attended St. Mary's School and graduated high school from Blessed Sacrament Academy. Margaret was a graduate of Mount Vernon School of Nursing, where she received her RN, and then worked at various hospitals and facilities in Yonkers, the Bronx, and the Catskills. In 1988, she went on to become a school nurse and worked at Roxbury Central School, I.S. 192, P10X, MS391 and retired from Lehman High School in 2009. Margaret was passionate about caring for children with developmental disabilities and serving as a chapter leader to gain rights for school nurses in the UFT.
She is survived by her 3 daughters Bridget Kingsbury, Maura O'Malley, and Meghan Creighton, by her 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, and by Allan Curran. Margaret's family wishes to thank the excellent staff on the CCU at Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City, NY for their compassionate care.
Visiting hours will be Thursday, Sept. 25th from 6pm to 9pm at Hodder's Funeral Home: 899 McLean Ave. Yonkers, NY and followed by a funeral mass and memorial service on Saturday, Sept. 27th, 12pm at Holy Innocents Church: 422 Main St. Halcottsville, NY.
