Roger H. Fletcher, 81, of Bainbridge, NY died on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at the New York State Veterans Home in Oxford, NY following a short illness. Roger was born in Bainbridge on August 22, 1933 and was a lifelong resident. He spent most of his working years in the automobile business. Roger attended Bainbridge High School where he excelled in several sports. Following graduation, Roger entered the United States Army and served his country honorably during the Korean Conflict and in the Army Reserves upon discharge from active duty. Roger was a loving husband and father, a sports enthusiast and, when in good health, enjoyed sharing his passion for hunting and fishing with his children, extended family and friends.
On October 7, 1956, Roger married Shirley A. Russell in Bainbridge, who survives him along with four of their five children: Thomas R. (and Maureen) Fletcher of Sherrill, NY, Todd S. (and Mary Beth) Fletcher of Fishkill, NY, Tad C. (and Alyssa) Fletcher of Waverly, VA and Tammy L. Barnhart of Bainbridge, NY. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Roger was predeceased by a son, Timothy, his parents, Forrest R. and Lena M. (Aylesworth) Fletcher, and his three brothers, Charles, Robert and Morris Sr.
The family will receive friends at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main Street, Sidney, NY on Tuesday, June 2, from 5 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 3, at 11 a.m. at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel. A burial with military honors at Greenlawn Cemetery in Bainbridge will be private at the request of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in the name of Roger Fletcher to the "New York State Veterans Home at Oxford Donation Account", 4207 State Highway 220, Oxford, NY 13830. Roger's memory will be honored on a leaf on The Giving Tree in the Piano Room at the Veterans Home.
