Obituary of Ann D. Lockwood

Ann D. Lockwood Bainbridge, New York Ann D. Lockwood departed this world on October 23, 2009. She died peacefully, of natural causes, at Vestal Nursing Center. Born in Poughkeepsie, NY on January 25, 1915 to Joseph and Gilda (nee Trabucco) Chiavaroli, both since deceased, she is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Don Eurillo of Bainbridge, a granddaughter and her husband, Carrianna and Michael Travinski of Clifton Park, a grandson and his wife, Don II and Kelly Eurillo of Endwell, and three great-grandchildren: Anna Eurillo, Joseph Eurillo and Zara Travinski. One sister, Gilda Trepepi, and one brother, Joseph Chiavaroli, also survive her, along with several nieces and nephews. Her beloved husband, Sherm Lockwood, predeceased her on January 22, 1992. She was also predeceased by a brother, Jim, and two sisters, Mary and Josephine. Mrs. Lockwood was a talented seamstress and fashion designer. She and her husband were the founders, in 1937, of Lockwood's Family Clothing Store in Bainbridge, which subsequently evolved into Lockwood's Extra Inches Shop, a retail and direct mail purveyor of fashions and footwear for big and tall men and women under the management of her daughter and son-in-law. The business closed in 1987. Active in the projects of her church and closely involved with her family, after her husband's death, Mrs. Lockwood divided her time between Florida and Bainbridge for the several years that she remained vital. When her health began to fail, she moved north permanently and progressed from Independent Living at Hilltop in Johnson City to Assisted Living at Hampshire House in Oneonta and finally to Vestal Nursing Center, where she enjoyed excellent long-term care and the additional ministrations of Hospice. While in her prime, she was well-read and well-informed. Always a detail-oriented, highly organized lady, she spent her retirement reading extensively, collecting antiques, volunteering, gardening, sewing, redecorating her Florida home, cooking and baking in a gourmet manner and communicating with her two grandchildren while they were away at boarding school and college. A gracious hostess, she enjoyed entertaining and feeding family and friends. Having come from a humble background, she empathized with and reached out to anyone in need. The myriad kindnesses that she extended to others throughout her life were quietly carried out. She was a very private, deeply feeling human being. Mrs. Lockwood referred to thoughtful embellishments as "Grace Notes". Her family feels blessed to have been the recipients of the countless Grace Notes that she added to their lives and to the lives of so many who crossed her path. Having outlived most of her contemporaries, it was Mrs. Lockwood's wish that her funeral and interment be privately conducted and attended by close family members only, with final arrangements under the direction of C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel in Sidney. Her earthly remains will be buried next to those of her husband at Greenlawn Cemetery in Bainbridge.
