Samuel A. Schroeder, Bainbridge, NY
Samuel A. Schroeder, Jr. of Bainbridge, New York passed away peacefully on September 27, 2015. Sam was born in Akeley, Minnesota, on August 2, 1925. He spent 5 years there before his parents Samuel Sr. and Mabel Anderson Schroeder moved the family to Binghamton, NY. Sam went to Binghamton North High School. He got drafted and served his country proudly in World War II. After receiving an Honorary Discharge he returned home and married childhood friend Betty Jane Dowling on August 11, 1951. Sam began his career at Scintilla and later Bendix in Sidney, NY. He and Betty built their own house and raised two children, Daniel (Lynne) and Alan (Sonia). Sam retired from Bendix, but did not like retirement, so he joined Unison in Norwich for another five years. Sam was an avid gardener, hunter, and fisherman and was most at home being outdoors. He was especially proud of his sons and two grandchildren, Talon and Tambria, and of all of their achievements so far in life.
Sam is survived by his loving wife, Betty, his two sons Daniel (Lynne) and Alan (Sonia), his two grandchildren Tambria and Talon Schroeder, his brother, Harley, his niece and nephew, Cindy and David, and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and his "family" at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, where he was an lifelong member and spent several years as a volunteer with their building committee.
Friends may call from 4-5 PM on Friday, October 2, 2015 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church West Main St. Sidney. Funeral services will follow at 5:00 PM at the church with Rev. Ernie Varga officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or the American Cancer Society.
