Henry O. Egli, Sidney, NY
Henry O. Egli, 93, of Sidney, NY passed away on October 13, 2015 at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson, City, NY after a brief illness.
Henry was born in Queens, NY to Albert and Emma Egli on October 10, 1922 and was a 1938 graduate of Sidney High School. He served in the Army in Europe during WWII, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. Henry went on to earn a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University after the war. Henry and his father, Albert, founded Egli Machine Company in 1946 in Sidney. On March 28, 1948 Henry married Ellen Hurlburt of Afton at St. Ann's Episcopal Church. He enjoyed spending time with family, fishing, and was active for many years in the Sidney Swiss Club. He received the Sidney Chamber of Commerce "Man of the Year" Award in 1991 and was involved in the Sidney School Board, the Town of Unadilla Planning Board, and was instrumental in the establishment of the Advanced Manufacturing Training Center.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen and son Denis (Sandra) of Sidney, son Gary (Kate) of Enfield, CT and daughter Janis Bravo (Al) of Lenox, MA. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Michael and Jerry Egli, Sara Egli Kilty (Jay), Andrew and Christopher Bravo, Emma and Anna Egli. Henry also had five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Ronald, sisters, Grace Anderson and Ruth VanVoorhis, and brother, Albert.
