Hugh A. Kearney, 86, of Bainbridge, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, January 8, 2016. Hugh was born on July 28, 1929 in Bellevue, PA, son of the late James and Agnes (Crooks) Kearney.
Following high school, Hugh served his country in the US Navy from 1948 to 1952. In 1953, he was married to Joyce Oliver in Bainbridge. They shared 62 years of love and marriage. He worked for Amphenol Corp. in Sidney for 37 years as an engineer and supervisor, including 5 ½ years on the International Space Station.
Hugh was a dedicated member of the Bainbridge community. He was the Bainbridge Town Supervisor for 18 years. He was a longtime member of the Bainbridge Fire Department and served as secretary treasurer of the Fire District for 18 years. He was a member of the Bainbridge School Board for five years, two of which he served as President; a church treasurer for seven years; and a Board member of the Chenango County IDA. In his free time, he also enjoyed volunteering at the Classic Car Museum in Norwich. In 2001, Hugh was named Bainbridge Citizen of the Year. He also received an award for commitment to community from the Chenango County Chamber of Commerce.
He is survived by: his beloved wife, Joyce; three daughters: Janet and Carl Colwell, Carol and Thomas Burns and Nancy and Johnny Casale; four grandchildren: Sarah, Ian, Claire and Natalie; great-granddaughter, Kyrsten; sister, Elizabeth and Ray Corman; and brother, Peter and Karen Johnson.
In addition to his parents, Hugh was predeceased by a granddaughter, Bethany, and his sisters, Martha Kearney and Helen Sovocool.

Friends may call from 5:00-7:00pm on Monday, January 11, 2016 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, Sidney. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, January 12th at the funeral chapel. Burial with military honors will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Delaware Valley Humane Society, 101 E.
